Achieving online business success is not an accident or a gift for the lucky ones but a predictable result. Since we are creatures of habit, the habits or programs we manage to create ( consciously or unconsciously) will directly influence our businesses.
The simple truth is this: everyone who wants to run a business from home has equal chances to succeed.
It’s only the quality of the habits we develop in time that makes the difference between successful and mediocre entrepreneurs.
“We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.”
So, it’s important to identify the habits that lead to online business success and then start practicing until they become our second nature.
8 habits that create online business success
1. Work on your inner world
What happens within determines the outcome. Thus, the first step for a long lasting change is taking total responsability for what happens within. Next, through continuous awareness you decide to keep only what it’s useful for your goals.
Personal growth in any form(books, audios, visualisation, events or spiritual practices like meditation, yoga etc) is the habit that pays off a lot in the long run. The quote below is more than relevant:
“Thoughts lead on to purposes; purposes go forth in action; actions form habits;
habits decide character; and character fixes our destiny.” (Tryon Edwards)
2. Proactivity
You can vizualize all day long, do incantations and study dozens of books and marketing courses. But you know what?
Nothing moves without taking action. If you get used to implement right away what you learn, especially when it’s uncomfortable then online business success becomes a certain fact. I admit..the mind wants to security. It will do everything to keep you inactive through procrastination and excuses. Remain alert when the temptation comes, accept it and focus on the business tasks you scheduled for the day.
3.Identify and study your target marget
It’s a habit that demands constant attention. Seek to find first who is your ideal customer and how can your services that fill his/her needs. Then keep monitoring. People’s needs and desires are constantly changing. In order to get the most from your work is very important to be open for improving your approach.
4. Build your own blog
Even if there are so many social media sites/social communities for promoting yourself, none of them is more effective than your own self hosted blog. Why?
Because you can use it as a tool for the key aspects of every online business:
- offering value via blog posts or videos to your audience, present solutions, show that you care about them.
-build a list by giving away a free video, webinar or ebook.
-maintaining a relationship with your list: via phone, email broadcasting or answering to their questions .
-creating a community of people that like and trust you.
Let’s see now few practical ways to build your blog:
- strive to post content every day
This way, you’re not only becoming good at writing but also people will be attracted by your commitment.
-optimize your posts for the search engines to be easily found.
-make your posts engaging by asking questions.
-reply to comments and keep the conversation going.
-use guest posting to spread the word about you and your blog.
5. Researching and learning from the best entrepreneurs
Online business success comes through a continuos learning process. One of the most powerful ways to come up with new content and improving your business skills is taking the time to read other blogs from your industry and watching training webinars hosted by top entrepreneurs.
I use to keep a notebook for the new marketing tips I learn. Therefore, I never run out of content ideas.
6. Blog promotion
Content creation and blog promotion are sides of the same coin. I usually dedicate 30 min to 1 hour to syndicate my content on various places: Facebook, Twitter, Stumble Upon, Linked In, Tribe Pro, Blokube, Better Networker or social bookmarking sites (using services like Onlywire and Im Automator)
7. Networking
Online business success depends on how well you can communicate with other people. Make a daily routine from meeting new people on social networks or offline.
Leave comments on their blogs, support them in their projects/contests and last but not least share their content like crazy. The more you give freely the faster you will see online business success.
8. Productivity
This habit affects all the others mentioned above. And no, it’s not only about managing your time. You can have enough time but not enough energy to perform the money making activities.
Doing things productively means developing strong routines for each area- mental, emotional, physical and spiritual- in order to achieve your goals without forgeting to take time for recharge your bateries.
Another aspect of productivity is tracking and mesuring. By reviewing your results periodically you can discover what works and what should be eliminated from the daily activities.
If you would like to find out more about how to be more productive in business and life, I highly recommend few books which helped me a lot:
- The power of full engagement by Tony Schwartz
-Million dollar habits by Brian Tracy
- The 4 hour workweek by Timothy Ferriss
That’s all folks!
As a final point, I must add that implementing these habits takes time and patience. Even if in the beginning it may seem hard to apply them, keep being consistent.
Once the initial discomfort disappears each habit will become your ally in creating a successful business.
Your turn: what are your habits for achieving online business success?

Thank you, Radu, for this insightful post. I am working on developing all these skills so that they will soon become habits (second nature) to me. I especially like your point about…well, truth be told, I like all your points. As I read through your list, I made a mental check list to make sure I was covering each one in my own practice to become a successful online business owner. Hm, I think if I keep doing what you say, I’ll soon become one.
Thanks again! Juli

Hi Radu and Cat,
Studying online entrepreneur successes helps me immensely.
Cause. Effect. Successful online entrepreneurs became success on purpose. No accidents here. Do what they do, with a twist, of course, and you will become successful too.
Super point about being uncomfortable Radu. Make changes to your habits and the ego will whine. Ignore the whining, embrace the uncomfy feelings as a sign of rapid growth and you will develop successful habits which create momentum, and carry you on to personal victory after victory.
Thanks for sharing your insight Radu and thanks for sharing Radu’s post with us Cat.

Hi Ryan,
Fantastic points on the cause/effect nature of all that we do, in life as well as business.
Breaking down the ego is a challenging and fun process of getting to know thyself! lol It’s like taking a pacifier away from a child throwing a “tizzy fit” who doesn’t want to grow up!
Ah what fun personal development may be!
Thank you for coming by to support Radu’s guest blog appearance here and for always leaving such great feedback!

Awesome comment Ryan,
The more we study the people who get results, the faster we will get results too in our business. Take the tips they use and adapt them to your personality. Each person is unique.
Taking action even when it’s uncomfortable is a sign of power…you show that you’re bigger than your problems or the mind itself.
Thanks for visiting me here too. I appreciate your support..a lot:)
Cheers,
Radu

Hi, Catherine,
Wow, what a great post! There are so many points that I can learn from just one post.
I have picked up the point about taking notes on various tips from other online networkers.
Having tips organized means that they will never be lost in this age of information overload.
For me, I have identified bloggers like Radu and visit their blogs often. This way, I am contributing my thoughts and ideas AND I am getting my newest blog post advertised. It is certainly a Win-Win strategy.

Hi Viola,
Yes indeed, this was a fine post by Radu. He is consistently bringing “the goods” to the forefront and I have found him to be such a generous person.
I am happy that you have taken away some good notes to help improve your own business and I agree with you that being organized and having our tips ready and in the front of our mind helps to make us much more effective! This is all strategy and when we learn this, we can be best prepared to maximize our time and also to be sure we are making the most of every opportunity we have available at any given moment.
I think that your strategy of connecting often with bloggers like Radu is a fantastic one. I operate similarly myself and since I have started to act in this way I’ve found what you say to be true! The more I co-blog like this with others, the more I fall in love with this method. It was much different than I was expecting when I first started doing it – I’ve been pleasantly surprised at all the gains it has brought for me.
I hope that you have a very nice weekend and a Merry Christmas, Viola! Looking forward to staying in touch with you over this new and exciting year which is nearly here!

Hey Viola,
I highly appreciate your kind words. Of course, blog commenting is a win-win strategy for oline entrepreneurs and of the best strategies to create meaningful relationships.
It’s great to see your expansion regarding writing awesome content and interacting with people as much as possible. With these methods applied consistently you cannot go wrong in 2012.
You’re right; the information on the internet is growing like crazy every day! Identifying your priorities and your exact problems that need to be solved will lead to less time wasted on surfing randomly. Secondly, there are top entrepreneurs who already have an experience and real results in their hands. If we learn and apply more from them, then information overload will start to vanish.
Thanks a lot for stopping by and supporting me on every post!
Wish you an awesome day,
Radu

Hi Melodie,
Radu does make some excellent points. I also agree with what you have said about learning from others. I didn’t used to be so big on reading blogs til I started wanting to blog, myself. In all honesty, one of the very best sources for me to improve myself and what I offer has come from what I have learned by reading other bloggers’ blogs! It’s all about regular application of what we’ve learned, as you said!
So glad you checked out Radu’s guest blog here. Thanks for the support and for sharing your insight!
Happy Holidays!

Hi Radu,
Loved your post — these are all great traits that lead to success in any form. I especially like your very first one — working on the inner you. I’ve found that mindset is 90% of the game (at least for me). It can be very hard to break through the mindset of traditional jobs and the “I can never do what they do” mentality.
But break through these mental limitations you must if you want to go outside your comfort zone to new heights.

Hey Bob,
I’m glad you enjoyed Radu’s post! He has such a great way about bringing essential points to life and I’m happy you found a point that resonates with you. I absolutely agree with your feeling that what we do is mindset-originated. If we don’t like the results we have, we must change our lens…the only way to do that is to adjust our own thinking and relationship with what it is we see and choose to experience.
Thanks again for checking out Radu’s guest blog here! I am inspired to do these more often!

Hey Bob,
You put it perfectly! Our inner world creates the outer world all the time by influencing the choices we make, the people we associate with.
It’s always our choice…when I catch myself limiting my potential in some way I stop and ask: Is this the way I want to feel/think or become..is this the best self I want to express in the world?
Then awareness comes in and I’m going on with a better decision.
Mindset development is an never ending journey..probably the most useful we can accept.
Thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts. Much appreciated.
All the best,
Radu
Starting a blog is like investing in a business. The profit may not be huge at first but gradually with hard work and dedication income starts to flow. Running an online business is very challenging and one should be ready to share, learn, interact and invest.

Hey Radu, welcome to Cat’s. Sorry I’m a little late dropping by but Christmas kind of got in the way. But, I finally made it!
What a wonderful post and so many juicy tips you shared. I loved everything you said. As many people know I had to step outside my comfort zone at the end of last year and start implementing things that I was uncomfortable doing. But in order to get where you need to go, you need to do things you’ve never done. And so the journey began and boy am I glad I just did it.
Consistent action is truly the key, getting your content out there for people to find and sticking with it even if you don’t feel you are getting the results you want. Nothing happens over night but with consistent action, it will happen.
I have implemented a lot of what you’ve shared here Radu. I learned these same techniques in a training program I joined last year and by consistently implementing what I was taught, I started seeing really great results within about a three month time. It’s continued to grow from there.
Great choice with guest bloggers Cat. Really great choice, Radu is the man. I see nothing but wonderful things happening for you both in the upcoming future.
So here is to both of your success and I wish you a Very Happy New Year!

Radu,
Thanks for this post. It is the foundation we build our business on. I’m working on each one of these habits and, I would not say that I’ve arrived yet. I learned that consistence is so important. It’s the glue that holds us on the right path, and having posts like these.
Thanks Much

“Identify and study your target market.” That is some really good advice. You have to know everything you can about your target market. You must know their worries, their struggles, and how they think. That way you can relate to them and know their hot buttons.
Thanks for sharing this great information.
