Get Off the Porch or Go Home! | Internet Marketing is NOT Internet Marketing is not a spectator sporta spectators Sport

Anyone that has known me even for a short time knows that I am a “Take Action” kind of gal, especially when it comes to Internet Marketing. There is nothing I dislike more than when someone comes to me and claims that all Internet Marketing programs are a waste of time and I find out that they didn’t take any action to ensure their success. Truth is most people I know that quit whatever Internet Marketing program they were in, did NOT full take action. Sure they probably played at it, but I’d bet they didn’t regularly attend company meetings or trainings, didn’t have a business plan laid out and watched more television than they spent time working on their business.

Internet Marketing is not synonymous with porch sitting

Just because Internet Marketing work is done primarily on the internet, probably from your home, does not mean you have all day to laze around the house and do nothing. In fact quite the opposite is true when you are first getting up and running. Like any new business you have to put time and effort into it to make it grow. Sure once you have reached a comfortable level of success you will find that you can only work an hour a day and maintain your income. BUT you have to do the time and “walk the line” of building success before you get there.

Its time you Get Off the Porch and start participatingIts up to you to get you noticed in Internet Marketing

Internet Marketing is a real business and must be treated like one. As I have posted in earlier blogs there are certain steps one must take to ensure success. The internet is a like the Grand Canyon…it goes on and on for miles, both in height, length and width. It would be almost impossible for you to see an object at the bottom of the canyon unless it had something to make it stand out and even then you might not see what you were looking for the first few times you glanced that way.

That is where the work begins in Internet Marketing...you have to get Noticed and to do that you have to put yourself, your brand, your product out there for others to see and THEN get them to notice you. A website, fan page, blog or social media account is nothing without action being taken on it daily. To the search engines a site that isn’t producing new things, on a regular basis, does not exist. Its like trying to find one piece of paper in a floor covered with thousands of them.

To get noticed you must stop being a spectator

I mean think about it, when you put a search term into the search engine the search engine goes looking for things, papers as it were, that produce the desired results. When you get those results, even if it says it found 345,000 results, you have probably never looked at the results beyond the first two pages.

Its all about taking action to be successful Therefor you need to take action: Act like you are working your own business. Find your “Why”, your purpose and motivation to keep you motivated while you work. Create a business plan to guide you so you stop wasting time deciding what to do. Write blog posts or Facebook Notes and then put the link out there for others to see in places that pertain to you and your goals. These are just a few of the steps you need to take to ensure you are not being a spectator. Once you stop Sitting on the Porch I think you will find that your business gets up and meets you in the yard, ready to play.

If you are ready to Get off the porch and start participating in the game of Internet Marketing and you are In it to Win it. Then hook up with Catherine Alexandra, she  will be happy to guide you in the direction that you need to go in for your success.

Love this one Cat. I have seen people use Twitter for a few weeks and say it doesn’t do anything for me.You have to give any of the mediums time to work after planting the seeds and working them daily.

I love how you compared people who don’t take action to spectators. Yes, lot of people are being spectators in their business – they just want to be the spectators, they want to see their blog grow without taking action (which is impossible). Learning is the first step to success. But, taking action is the second and most important step. If you choose to be a spectator rather than the actual player, then you will always be one – seeing other blogs grow, you will also see the people who just came on board take action and grow their business.

Action truly is the silver bullet to success.

Thank you for the post, Cat,

Great Job Catherine,
About the only thing “sitting on the porch” ever did for me was gain weight.
You are correct in the statement most fail, or give up, when their aspirations are NOT delivered in an instant.
It took me three years to add all of my Pork and it is not going too be an overnight success with my Fitness Program Challenge.
Success in anything demands focus and continuous application of Massive Action (most of the time “dull and mundane” tasks).
You cannot have a well trained horse in 90 days nor by looking at it in the pasture. That process demands daily attention and repetition.
I am not losing weight and inches because I think about it.
The peddling a bike, swimming and walking are dull, repetitious events, that are delivering small success weekly.
All of our business succeeded using this same Principle…..
“The application of Massive Action to a well designed Plan of Action over a period of time”
Thanks again for sharing your insight

Hi Cat,

I tell struggling individuals that internet marketing is exactly like a brick and mortar offline business. You stock your cyber shelves with fresh, relevant, helpful content instead of stocking your offline store shelves. Powerful advice here that any struggling person needs to take to heart, well done!

People who run successful restaurants, or clothing stores, or whatever, bust their ass. Simple. They put in many hours, and likely see no real money flowing in for a bit of time, but they still bust their ass, because they know sowing precedes reaping.

To succeed with internet marketing you need to bust your tail as much as you would with an offline store. Imagine if you closed the shop for one day? Or two? Nope, not a possibility…at least if you don’t want the business to fold over the first 2 weeks. You open up every day, for at least 6 or 8 hours, and you work at it, every day.

Just like internet marketing. Work at it every day, and it might start at 2 or 3 hours if it’s a part time gig, but the numbers WILL increase if you plan to make money from your venture, because IM requires a similar amount of energy and effort than an offline, brick and mortar business. No way around it.

Thanks Cat!

Lol, I was chuckling because for the first five minutes instead of “porch” I kept seeing “pot”. Guess that’s been programmed into me!

You’re quite right of course. You can’t get anywhere just hoping it’ll fall in your lap one day. Sometimes you can’t even get anywhere with WORK – because it takes HARD WORK!

I read a really interesting article recently that said talking about your goals could actually make it harder to achieve them. For example, when you want to lose weight, say – like good ‘ol Chuck here – and you tell all your friends you’re going to do it. Just talking about it can make your brain think you’re already part of the way there so you don’t really try as hard. Weird, right? But it goes to your point that you can’t think about it – can’t even talk about it – just gotta do it.

I love this post Cat so thank you for also sharing what I’ve been saying all along.

This industry isn’t something you “play around with”. You’re either in it full force or not. People ask me all the time how I’m able to get the results I have. It was just being consistent in my efforts. It does pay off and it does work whatever you are doing. But, the other very important thing I learned is that I cannot do this alone. For years I tried; I bought every eBook, every course, joined training communities all thinking I would learn what I needed and that would be it.

You need that support, you need that mentoring, you need that person who will call you out, you need that coach and I know for a fact you are excellent at that. You care about people who are here and willing to do the work.

So listen up guys… You can’t do this alone and if you need assistance, Cat’s your women. She’s a hard worker and a dedicated mentor who will help you get to where you want to go.

That I do know for sure. :-)

Hi Cat
I love the Get off the Porch analogy. I agree totally with what Ryan said here. Business is business and online or offline it takes hard work. I think that sometimes because people do not have rent to pay on premises and some of the other overheads that go with a brick and mortar business they do not take it seriously.
I also think most of us have learning curve when they come online and the best way to shortcut that is to get a coach or mentor.
Great message Cat

This post is too true. Too many people join a company and expect miracles. Of course, there are way too many companies that promise to “build it for you” but this is not going to happen. If you start a business, work it like a business.

Hi Cat,

I like your comparison of Network Marketing to the Grand Canyon. It’s so true. If we do nothing we sure will stand out there like if we were standing somewhere in the Grand Canyon, we would be like a needle in a hay stack and nobody would notice us. I’ve tried to explain that many times to newbies who have asked me questions.

In order to be seen and noticed, there is no doubt that actions need to be taken. It’s not going to happen on its own. NO way! I am so glad you are reminding people, especially newbies of this fact. Sometimes they believe that internet marketing is a walk on the beach, but it’s not!

Thanks for this, Cat :)
